Vintage 1974 Universal Underdog Lunchbox and Thermos EXCELLENT CONDITION!!!!
SOLD $4,789.00 Sold: Sep 19, 2024 on eBayOriginal Listing Description
Well, not the Holy Grail of lunchbox collectibles, but the closest thing to it. Those collectors who were watching know that I just sold half of that kit, the 1957 Toppie thermos (much harder to find than the lunchbox). Equally hard to find and presented here for your edification and consideration is this Vintage 1974 Universal Underdog Lunchbox and Thermos. So rare to find in this condition and with such vibrant colors in the graphics. Despite the minor paint loss on the border areas due to normal contact with surfaces, this lunch box is in almost pristine condition. No dents, or dings. No fading or paint loss at all. There is a pencil tip-sized dimple and a 1/8" micro-scratch on the hem of Cad Lackey's coat. Other than that, and the minor paint loss on the borders, everything else is excellent. One 1/4" scratch between the Man on the Street and Shoe-Shine Boy along with a 1/16" scratch just above Shoe-Shine Boy's beanie on the side panel. (see pic). Inside of box is clean. Be advised, there have been ABSOLUTELY NO ALTERATIONS done to this box or thermos. No "period paints" (what a joke!), retouching, or interchanging of parts at all has been performed on this lunchbox or thermos. All parts are original including handle, clips, and locking mechanism. The thermos itself is in pristine condition with only one pea-sized paint loss circle above Simon Bar Sinister's head. Absolutely gorgeous! The pair together make for a wonderful display kit. Although the design is the same on both the front and back of the lunchbox, many of the characters are present. Underdog himself appears both as the superhero as well as the sweet, humble Shoe-Shine Boy (side panel). Sweet Polly Purebred, the perennial damsel in distress The mad scientist Simon Bar Sinister. His faithful yet dim-witted henchman Cad Lackey. And the Man on the Street ("It's a bird, it's a plane..."). The rarity of this kit will only increase with time and purchase of this beautiful lunchbox and thermos will be a great investment as it is guaranteed to appreciate monetarily. During the last twelve years that I have been selling on the ebay platform, I have enjoyed a 100% positive feedback status because I have always strived to provide item descriptions that are completely accurate. I believe I have listed all the physical and visual defects that exist on this lunchbox and thermos kit. Still, I ask that you please view all of the photographs closely and thoroughly. Due to the costs associated with shipping and postal insurance, as well as the risk of loss or damage to the items, returns are not accepted, I will not ship these items without full postal insurance coverage. This is to protect both the buyer and seller. Also, if you have any questions, please feel free to contact me through messaging and I will answer as soon as possible. Thank you for your interest and good luck! (Condition: Pre-Owned)
Note: This item has been sold and is no longer available. This page serves as a historical price reference for Lunch Boxes collectors and appraisers.
