eBay Item Description: POPEYE METAL LUNCHBOX & METAL/GLASS THERMOS from Universal Industries 1962. The Popeye and Superman lunchkits are the only two boxes to be produced by three different manufactures. This super rare R-9 box is the first Popeye box made to be based on Popeye the Sailor Man - the popular and long-running comic and cartoon franchise created in 1929. Box features Popeye socking Brutus in the kisser while Olive Oyl and Wimpy (“I’ll gladly pay you Tuesday for a hamburger today”) look on. A very HTF box in any condition – and a must-have for the Popeye fan! Condition: Box is complete and correct (including the original wire thermos holder). Box lithos are glossy and complete throughout with scratches and rubbings on all panels. General rim wear on front - with no corner dents or dimples. Metal hardware is nice and shiny. Inside of box is clean overall with rubbings and blemishes - and no previous owner markings. Box in overall Fine Plus C-7.5 condition. NO THERMOS. From my personal collection – stored carefully in a cool, dry, smoke-free room away from sunlight.
